In his early career Ben worked as a project manager for infrastructure companies competing to build new roads and hospitals. He experienced first-hand the complexity of managing multiple suppliers and also learnt the importance of engaging people who contribute more than just the technical minimum required. A team staffed by individuals who proactively offer ideas and solutions can make the difference between a great project and a good one.
Ben’s facility for problem solving led him to join a management consultancy that helped other organisations develop new infrastructure solutions. What struck him here was how, despite the fact that occupying buildings was usually the second biggest cost for companies after their payrolls, the internal expertise deployed to manage them often did not reflect this.
A growing interest in human resources led to an opportunity to manage international projects for a start-up firm in the field of employment law. Having worked for clients in the publishing, banking, telecommunications and retail areas, this confirmed his view that, due to their reluctance to take the risk of employing people from outside their sectors, many companies forego the opportunity to learn best practice from others.
Ben’s career path means he is well placed to take on the detailed planning and implementation of complex projects. He has particularly good written communication skills and is fluent in English and Spanish.
Outside of work, he carries giants in various locations across Catalonia and despite his English roots is enjoying the resurgence in historic Catalan traditions.
